Printing my art directly on a wall - who knew?

Despite being officially “retired,” I am continually amazed by how much there is left to discover.

Recently, I had a serendipitous encounter with a local business owner while capturing Macro Iris portraits for a birthday gift commissioned by his wife. During our session, we started talking about his Wilmington-based company, The Wall Printer, introducing me to an innovative intersection of technology and art I didn't know existed.

As it turns out, there is a specialized vertical printer capable of rendering high-resolution artwork directly onto nearly any wall or floor surface. By moving the print head vertically along an upright mast and horizontally along track rails, this robotic system applies UV ink directly onto textured or smooth surfaces at resolutions up to 2880 DPI.

Paul, the CEO and Founder, even printed the iris portrait directly onto his office wall using this technology (see the photo below!).

For visual artists and photographers, this capability expands the horizon of what is possible. Large-scale architectural installations become far more accessible and cost-effective, offering clients a striking alternative to traditional framed or canvas prints.
