5 Things to Know Before Your First Session

People arrive at their first iris portrait session with the same handful of questions: what actually happens, how long it takes, whether the lights are uncomfortable, and what they need to do beforehand. The short answers: it is simple, it is quick, and there is nothing to prepare.

At Midnight Noon Studio in Wilmington, every session follows the same calm process. It starts with real macro photography and ends with hand-edited artwork, no AI-generated eyes, no fantasy filters.

1. The session takes about fifteen minutes

Plan on roughly fifteen minutes from the time you sit down to the time you are done. There is no long appointment block and no waiting around between steps.

Most of those minutes go to getting you positioned comfortably. The photography itself is a handful of shots. Once you are settled, it moves quickly.

2. Here is exactly what happens

You rest your chin and forehead on the studio headrest while the camera, mounted on a tripod, photographs your iris. A few brief, low-powered flashes light the eye, and there are no bright flashes in your face.

During the session you get to see your iris appear on screen, often for the first time. Most people have never seen the fibers, rings, and flecks of color inside their own eye at this scale.

3. There is nothing you need to prepare

There is no wardrobe to plan and no posing to practice. Come as you are. The photograph is of your iris, and everything else stays out of frame.

If you are coming with someone for a couples portrait, the same applies to both of you. Each person is photographed individually, and the two irises are brought together later in the custom edit.

4. You will see your iris the same day; finished images follow within 48 hours

The reveal happens during the session: your iris on screen, up close, in full detail. The finished portraits are hand-edited afterward to bring forward what the camera captured while keeping the image true to your eye.

High-resolution digital images are delivered within 48 hours of the session. The digital portrait can stand on its own, or it can become finished wall art later: ChromaLuxe metal, acrylic, or canvas.

5. Booking is simple, and you do not pay at booking

Sessions are booked online, and nothing is collected when you reserve your time. Payment happens at or after the session, once you have seen what the studio can do.

If you would rather talk it through first, a phone call works just as well. Either way, the only thing the booking asks of you is a time that suits you.
